Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning interest of students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects, which resulted in low learning outcomes and student engagement in learning. The Project Based Learning (PjBL) model was chosen as a strategy to increase student learning interest by providing active, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences through projects that directly involve students. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two implementation cycles, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were fifth-grade students at SDN 104/II Sungai Pinang for the 2024/2025 academic year. Research instruments included learning process observation sheets, cognitive learning outcome tests, and learning interest questionnaires. Research success indicators were measured from the improvement in percentages of learning interest, learning process, and student learning outcomes. The research results showed that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model was able to increase student learning interest in IPAS learning. The learning process also showed improvement from 48% (poor) to 82% (good), and student learning outcomes that achieved minimum completeness (KKTP 69) increased from 80% in cycle I to 88% in cycle II. In cycle I, the percentage of student learning interest reached 79.3% in the good category and increased to 83.1% in cycle II. This improvement indicates that the PjBL model is effective in encouraging students to be more active, critical, and creative in IPAS learning. The conclusion of this research is that the use of the Project Based Learning model is effective in improving the process, cognitive learning outcomes, and learning interest of fifth-grade students in IPAS learning at SDN 104/II Sungai Pinang. The practical implication is that teachers are recommended to adopt the PjBL model in learning to increase student engagement and academic achievement.
